“When I woke up, I was sleeping on the street, I felt the world was dancing and I was dirt beneath their feet” Lyrics from song, “When Loves Come to Town” by U2.
October 10, 2026
Today we had the privilege of serving 41 people.
- We were happy to hear this morning that our friend (Jose) went into treatment. He told his friends he was “sick of living like this”. We will continue to pray for our friend (Jose). He is one of the bright spots on Saturday mornings. He’s always volunteering to help get our boxes of clothes, snacks, etc. out of the back of the truck.
- We were able to move around more this morning, running into smaller groups of our friends. We were driving down one street when we noticed two people huddled in a doorway. We stopped and asked if they needed some help. They looked up and said “yes” and walked over to the truck. The gentleman was a new friend (Jean) along with our friend (Natalie). When we asked him what he needed, he said “everything”. We fixed him up with sweatpants, hoodie, socks, underwear, snacks. He kept repeating, “God bless you guys”. We gave (Natalie) the same items along with a pair of gloves. She was very happy. After we finished giving her everything she needed, I replied, “you hit the jackpot” to which she replied, “I hit the jackpot every day I wake up”. We both thought this should be the quote of the day, a simple reminder of how blessed we are that God woke us up this morning to serve those who sometimes feel they are “dirt beneath our feet”.
- We ran into our friend (Ray) who was in a doorway surrounded by all his possessions. We relayed a story that (Angie) had told us earlier that he was mean to her and head-butted her. (Angie) has a lot of issues going on but when we spoke to (Ray) he told us he bent over to speak to her and the brim of his hat hit her in the forehead. We both chuckled at how a story can be completely different from one person to another.
- On the way out of town, we spotted a young couple carrying multiple bags with all their possessions. We asked if they needed some help. We pulled over and fixed them up with socks, underwear, hygiene items and what we had left for clothes. (John) asked for a bag to put all the stuff we gave them in. (Karly) was very appreciative of the things we gave them. As they were walking away I thought the minute they put those bags down out of their sight, someone will grab them. It’s a common story on the street.
- Some of our friends are toughing it out in the woods in tents, but with the weather changing this can become challenging. Others go into the shelter, and others save a few bucks and to into a cheap motel for a night to wash and shower. Sometimes the everyday things we take for granted, our friends are praying for.
“Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take” Proverbs 3:6
