“When he told you were troubled, you’ll forever be alone; When he told you you should run away you'll never find a home” lyrics from song “Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams

Today, we had the privilege of serving 30 people.
- Today was a good day with our friends. The sun was shining (no snow)! We ran into our friends (Jerry, Kathleen) who have scraped together enough money while they get wait-listed for housing. They looked good but when talking after a few minutes they slipped back into the street con and we quickly reminded them who they were talking to, and they laughed.
- One of our friends kept commenting on a scally cap I wear. I told him I have a cap for you and gave it to him. He lit up. Our friend (Jose) was with him along with our other regulars. We noticed a guy get out of a truck and walked over to us and said he didn’t want anything; he was just amazed at what we were giving out and kept saying “god bless you guys”.
- We were happy to run into our friend (Mary) who kept missing us. She went to a treatment program, but when she showed up they told her she needed to get medically cleared to go into treatment. This set her back, but she is still determined to get back in. (Mary) is street tough. We laughed when she told us she flagged down a white pickup truck that looked like mine. When the guy pulled over, she walked over to him and yelled at him, “You’re not Shaun, forget it”!
- We ran into our friend (Ray) who has been on the streets for over a decade. We fixed him up with his favorites, Oreos, Gatorade and our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card. In talking to him he seemed sad. Asking him what was going on, he explained he has been receiving blood transfusions, but nothing changes with his blood count. Along with this he has issues with his lungs -- most likely pneumonia. Cuts that he gets don’t heal properly. He showed us large swollen scabs. I told him living outside in this environment won’t allow his body to heal property, along with him getting older. Tears started to stream down his cheeks. I kept telling him to go into the hospital. If he wants to have any type of relationship with his daughter, he needs to heal inside and out. He told me he loved me and I told him I loved him. So sad he never showed emotions like this in the two years we have met with him. His body is breaking down.
- We asked a new friend what he needed and he whispered, “socks”. Liz looked and pointed out he was wearing Croc sandals.
- We ran into our friend (Laurie) who had recently lost her husband. She is a street tough woman. We were laughing when she told us years ago a guy tried to rob her on a street corner with a knife, but she ended up putting a beating on him. When the cops showed up, he was yelling, “she beat me up” and (Laurie) replied, “he was the one with the knife”. You can’t make this stuff up!
