“Some of us fall by the wayside, and some of us soar to the stars, and some of us sail thru our troubles, and some have to live with the scars” lyrics from song, “Circle of Life” by Elton John

May 16, 2026

Today we had the privilege of serving 33 people.

  • We were out and about a little earlier than usual.  This confused some of our friends but most of them were around.  Our friends might remember few things, but they do know we will be there on Saturday mornings.  One of our friends was asking for a pair of sneakers for a friend who had everything stolen from her.  This has always been a problem when we give out anything new or in good shape; people wait for an opportunity to steal them when our friends are sleeping. Underwear and socks were in demand today, along with Gatorade and snacks.  At one of our regular stops we had to pass by because of the amount of people that were waiting for us.
  • We ran into a new friend (Brian) who we had seen a couple of times.  We were talking about how a lot of our friends are being picked up on outstanding warrants. As we were talking, he started to tell us a little of his story.  He had been clean and sober, doing well and living in an affluent neighborhood.  Expecting his first child, his wife went into labor and had complications delivering the baby and she died as a result.  His life spiraled out of control, and he lost everything and now resides in a small tent we had given me.  I have written before about how we never know a person’s story of how they ended up where they are at this moment. The sad part of this is that our friends don’t feel worthy of God’s love or our love.  It shocks them when we hand them a $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.  These small acts of kindness mean so much to our friends who feel like they are lepers of society hiding in the shadows of life.

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn and you will not be condemned.  Forgive and you will be forgiven.”  Luke 6:37
