“Open the eyes of my heart, Lord I want to see you, I want to see you” lyrics from song “Open the Eyes of My Heart” by Michael Smith

May 24, 2025

Today, we had the privilege of serving 33 people.

  • We met up with two new friends (Johnny/Tony).  They saw us handing out clothes to our friends and looked puzzled.  We fixed them up with socks, underwear, snacks, Gatorade, water.  But when we handed them our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card, Tony’s eyes lit up like a bright sky.
  • Our friend (Robbie) is still physically struggling and may need to go to a rehab/nursing home. His addictions, along with a lack of proper diet, hygiene issues, little cuts and scrapes that are not treated get infected quickly. This lifestyle contributes to the physical breakdown of their bodies and minds.
  • We heard our friend (Bosch) is in the hospital.  He didn’t look good last week; we are praying for him.  Another one of our friends (Jerry) is in the hospital also.  We always hope that when our friends are in the hospital, the brief break from the street life will allow them to rethink their living conditions.  Sadly, this is not always the case.  We just keep praying and ask God to “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord”.
  • We talked to our friends who are married about making the leap into treatment but there is always a reluctance to go unless they can go together.  Their fear is if one is in treatment the other is still on the street.  But they also realize they can’t keep going on this way, physically, mentally, spiritually, along with the loss of dignity.  If we don’t see them next Saturday, maybe they went through with their plan.  We can only hope and pray.
  • We met a new friend (Amy) who was very excited to see us.  She had heard about what we are doing and hadn’t met us yet. During these brief encounters with our friends our hope is to be a bright spot in their day.  I think just the fact that we remember their names is important to them.  Jim would say they really just want someone to listen to them.  Shunned by family, friends and society, anyone who offers anything to them makes them feel like a human being for a brief moment.

We are in need of men’s/women’s white tee shirts, along with men’s underwear.  Thanks to all who support “On the Street Ministry.

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick, I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners”. Mark 2:17
