“Nobody knows what we’re for, only what we’re against when we judge the wounded”. Lyrics from song, “Jesus, Friend of Sinners” by Casting Crowns

July 5, 2025

Today, we had the privilege of serving 30 people.

  • We got an early start this morning which gave us a little more time to talk with our friends.  We were sad to hear that our friend Kathleen had passed.  She never woke up from sleeping in a doorway.  We met her about 16 months ago.  She was always pleasant.  If she was alone, she would always ask for an extra packet for her partner (Larry) who she ran with.  (Larry) told us about her not waking up.  We told him how sorry we were to hear this.  I think this lifestyle can only be fought off physically for so long.  With their addictions and the lack of proper diet, their bodies break down.  It’s sad to watch.
  • We did run into our friend (Ray) who was talking about trying to get a blood transfusion and fighting with the insurance company.  I asked how long he has been on the street, and he told us 19 years.  When we talked about getting off the street into some sort of housing, he replied “I did that and couldn’t make the adjustment. The streets are my home”.  Our friend Peg from PCO has been working with him for years.
  • We met up with a new friend (Diana).  We gave her our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card, as well as socks, underwear, tee shirts, snacks, Gatorade.  We also had some purses filled with personal hygiene items that were donated by someone and left at My Brother’s Keeper for On the Street Ministry.  (Thanks to the anonymous donor!
  • We were speaking with our friends (Kathy, Shane) a married couple who have a daughter being raised by relatives.  While speaking with them, I was recalling a conversation I had with another married couple who at one time had everything – the house, 2 cars, good jobs.  When they talked about all they had and where they are now, they can’t believe they can ever get back to that life again.  We tell them it all starts with the first step to start to change…with God all things are possible.

God Bless,
