“Momma just hung her head and said, son Papa was a rolling stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home and when he died, all he left us was alone” lyrics from song, “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” by the Temptations
June 20, 2026
Today we had the privilege of serving 37 people.
- I chose this song to bring attention to Father’s Day weekend. There are a lot of our friends whose home life was tragic because of a missing or abusive father themselves who are estranged from their children as a result of their lifestyle. There are also some friends who come from loving fathers and mothers whose hearts ache watching their children go through such depths of despair and loneliness from their vices.
- We ran into (Sarah) with her daughter (Rachel) who was so thin and fragile and wearing flip flops. We fixed her up with a nice pair of sneakers. The nice sneakers started a conversation with our friends about people stealing sneakers/clothes, etc. while they are sleeping. There are people who prey on others who may have something of value that they don’t have.
- We were surprised to see our friend (Mick) who we have not seen in over a year. He actually looked really good since the last time we saw him. I asked if he just got out of the can (jail) and he said yes. We gave me him our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card, and some socks and underwear. The sad part is our friends physically look good only to return to the scene of the crime so to speak. Some of our friends don’t know any other type of life. The only family they know are on the street. I hugged him and told him I was glad to see him to which he replied, “God bless you guys”. Our friends commented last week that we treat them like human beings while others look at them as just an eyesore. As Jesus has taught us, “love one another as I have loved you”.
- Some of our friends have vanished which is concerning. Usually after a while they reappear but our friend (Jessie) has not been seen or heard from in a while. The last time we talked he was looking for some phone numbers for treatment facilities. His girlfriend texted me and was concerned about his mental health. It’s not only the physical deterioration of our friends, but the mental component as well.
- On the way out of town a lot of our friends were coming out of the local Dunkin Donuts with coffee and donuts bought with the gifts cards we give out.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24
