“Lovely to see you again my friend, walk along with me to the next bend.” Lyrics from song, “Lovely to See You Again” by the Moody Blues
October 24, 2026
Today we had the privilege of serving 32 people.
- With the start of the cold mornings, there were not as many of our friends out on the street. We met up with our friends (Amy/Jack and Tim/Laurie). Fortunately, they have been able to stay at the shelter lately; some can’t get in, some don’t want to go in and others aren’t allowed in. (Amy/Jack) were happy to finally get their ID’s back and were trying to get some day labor to save up for housing. We explained one of our friends (Lee) had waited to get housing and when she finally got it, because it was a couple of towns over, she didn’t stay there long enough and lost it.
- Coats and hats were in demand this morning. Our friend (Tim) was sporting a large black eye he got from getting into it with another friend (Rich). He kept saying it was his fault stating he hadn’t drank in a couple of years and he did the other night, and the result was an altercation and a black eye.
- We were shocked to see our friend (Julie) who was with a few of our friends in a parking lot. As we drove closer to them, we noticed (Julie’s) face looked like she had Halloween makeup on. When we got out of the car we could see she had a severally bruised forehead and two black eyes. Evidently, she had been arguing with another woman when the woman hit her in the forehead with a metal pipe. She should have gone to the hospital but like a lot of our friends, she shrugged it off. As we spoke to her and her friend (Jose), we tried to convince them that they don’t have to live this way. They both say the same thing, “we want to but…”. There is always a “but”. They could give up one thing to have everything or give up everything to have one thing.
- We met a new friend (Jack) who was glad to catch up with us. He heard what we were doing and was glad he finally ran into us. He is originally from the north shore and ran into hard times and had lost everything, his home, job, contact with family. He has been living outside with his wife (Laurie) and were trying to get back on their feet. We fixed him up with our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card along with hats, socks, underwear, tee shirts, coats. We gave him a backpack to put everything in.
- Because of the generosity of friends of On the Street Ministry, we were able to give some money to Angels Plan who are putting together a Thanksgiving dinner for our friends at L Street Mission in Brockton. The L St Mission is a Godsend, along with Peg, Brother Rob and the volunteer staff…they consistently show the love of Christ to the lonely and the forgotten.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled”. Matthew 5.6
