“Losing friends and I’m chasing sleep, everybody’s worried ‘bout me. In too deep, they say I’m in too deep” lyrics from song “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten

May 2, 2026

Today we had the privilege of serving 43 people.

  • This morning was full of surprises, some good and some bad.  Our friends (Kay/Kevin) cannot afford to stay in the motel anymore and have moved into the shelter.  We hope this move will convince them to make a lifestyle change.  For most of our friends, change only comes when they run out of options.  Sweatpants and hoodies were in demand with the cold weather still hanging around.
  • We met up with our usual friends at a different spot.  We handed out our packet of $10 bill/ $10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card along with socks, underwear, tee shirts, hoodies.  There was a new friend (Jim), a tall guy with his small dog.  We gave him a hoodie, but I was judging him by the clothes he was wearing, and I didn’t think he really needed anything from us.  I call this contempt prior to investigation.  But after talking to him he kept saying God bless you guys, so I decided to look for a pair of sweatpants his size.  We found a brand-new pair of jeans his exact size.  When I handed them to him, he started crying and kept saying God bless you guys.  He told Liz he barely had enough money to pay for his small transitional apartment and what we gave him was huge to him.  We never know the struggles our friends carry with them.
  • We ran into our friend (Ray) who sleeps in doorways next to his loaded shopping cart.  We woke him up which is the usual routine, and I commented to him about his bizarre behavior last Saturday to which he replied, “I plead the fifth” which made us both laugh.  He yelled to us as we were leaving, “I love you guys”.
  • On a sad note, our friend (Kathy) was arrested on an old warrant the other day.  We were told she was very upset when they took her away.  We are trying to find out where they took her.  A lot of our friends have wreckage from the past that comes back to haunt them if they don’t deal with it.
  • We noticed one of our friends (Mike) pacing up and down the sidewalk looking visibly upset.  We pulled up to him and asked what was going on.  He told us he made some money doing some side work but lost it when he fell asleep on the bus.  We gave him two of our packets to help ease his angst.  All and all it was a good day.  Even the smallest of gestures makes a big difference in our friends’ day.  The things we take for granted our friends are praying for.

Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me”

John 14:6
