“It’s survival in the city, when you live from day to day, city streets don’t have much pity”.  Lyrics from song, “In the City” by the Eagles

April 4, 2026

Today we had the privilege of serving 33 people.

  • Maybe it was the warmer weather this morning, but our friends seemed to be a little more fired up. Our friend (Shirley) was especially fired up.  She had been arguing with someone over money, and she had a darkness in her eyes that I had not seen before.  I told her “I am worried about you” which she shrugged off. Liz made up a bunch of Easter bags with candy for our friends.  She doesn’t miss an opportunity to make our friends feel loved.  With families gathering for Easter this Sunday, these little bags of candy mean so much to our friends who are separated from families and loved ones.
  • We met up with our friends (Rosie, Jack) who have been staying at a nearby motel.  We noticed they had all their belongings in 4 carry bags, which was different.  They told us they needed to make a change in their lives.  This is welcome news; we try to stay optimistic when our friends tell us this.  Time will tell and we pray it happens.
  • We ran into our friend (Jose) who told us he was sleeping in a van.  A brother had noticed he was sleeping in a doorway and offered him the keys to the van to get him out of the elements.  He talked about it like he got a suite at the Ritz Hotel.
  • We found our friend (Daryl) sleeping in front of a strip mall.  We woke him and told we had been looking for him these last 2 weeks. We had a bag of clothes for him.  He has been wearing the same clothes for the last few months. We worry about him as his health has really declined lately and when we mention getting some medical attention his reply is “what good will that do?” The sad part is our friends become delusional after being on the street for a long period of time.
  • Random acts of love and kindness mean the world to our friends.  Life is full of situations and reactions in a 24-hour period.  Sometimes we fail to see through the eyes of God; maybe we just need to just adjust our sight.  How do we react when we see a brother or sister struggling in a situation?  Do we act in the image of Jesus who has risen this weekend?
  • We gave out a lot of Oreos, Cheez-Its, Gatorade, water, hoodies, sweatpants along with our packets of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.  We are blessed to have donors who remain anonymous who keep this ministry going.
