“I will never walk alone, He holds my hand, He will guide each step I take and if I fall I know He’ll understand, till the day He tells me why He loves me so”. Lyrics from song, “His Hand in Mine” by Elvis Presley

Today, we had the privilege of serving 31 people.

  • Earlier in the week I ran into (Manny) and his daughter.  They were on a small patch of grass under a tree across from a shopping center, all their belongings spread out on this small section of burnt grass.  I pulled up to him and asked if he needed some help, showing him our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.  His eyes widened and he said “God bless you” to which I replied, no…God bless you”.  He was also happy to see Tito in the back seat; he was trying to pet him.  He told me that the person in the sleeping bag was his daughter.  I gave him our packet for her as well.
  • This morning we met up with (Kara/Shane).  Kara did not look good.  We asked her what was going on?  She was laying in the doorway of the building we pulled up to.  She had been vomiting earlier.  We gave her some Gatorade and water and she seemed to feel better.  She may have been dehydrated.  We fixed them up with some clothes/snacks and our packet.
  • We ran into two new friends (Christina/Daniel).  They had heard what we were doing but never had met us.  They were overwhelmed with what we had to offer them (socks, underwear, tee shirts, leggings).  They kept saying thank you.  I think sometimes our new friends are ashamed of having to rely on the generosity of strangers because of their current situation.  “Remember the mission” as Jim would say.
  • On a bright note, we were informed that our friends (Kathy/James) went into treatment.  We have been seeing them for almost 18 months.  We have had many conversations about getting clean, if not for themselves, maybe for their daughter.  God works in mysterious ways.  We will never take credit for someone’s move towards God’s grace or blame for someone’s fall from grace.  “There is but one ultimate authority, a loving God, may they find Him now” (Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous)

God Bless,

Claire and Shaun Teed and Tito
