“I have a new revelation, a Savior who calls me His friend, I used to fight on my own, but never again” lyrics from song, “God Is Not Against Me” by Brandon Lake

March 14, 2026

Today, we had the privilege of serving 34 people.

  • With the snow mostly gone and the temperatures a little warmer, more of our friends were out this morning.  During one of our regular stops, belts were much in demand along with Gatorade, socks, Oreos and our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.  As we were driving away, our friends (Ronnie and Leslie) came running up the driveway worried they had missed us.  (Ronnie) who has a host of physical issues going on, was so happy we stopped.  We fixed them both up with snacks, water and our packet.  As we were driving away (Ronnie) signaled for me to stop.  I rolled the window down and he said, “the hug you just gave me… I really needed it today; it’s been a long time since I had one.”  This statement got us to thinking that small acts of love mean so much to our friends. How many of them have heard the voices telling them they are a bum and a loser?  Random acts of love and kindness go a long way in a person’s day.
  • It was shocking to see one of our friends (Rick) whose skin was yellow which is usually a sign that there are issues with the liver.  When asked, the usual reply is “everything is fine”.  We ran into our friend (Randy) who had an operation on his hand brought on by a severe infection acting as if it’s no big deal.
  • During one of our stops, we noticed a man and woman leaning against a building watching what we were doing but never moved toward us.  I went over to them and asked if they needed some help and held out our packet which took them by surprise.  I introduced myself and they told me their names (Tracey and George). I motioned for them to come over to the truck when I realized (Tracey) was wearing flipflops.  We fixed her up with a pair of sneakers, socks, hooded sweatshirt. (George) did not come over to the truck but we gave (Tracey) a bunch of clothes and snacks for him. Speaking to him, I got the feeling he didn’t believe he deserved anything good.  We asked about their situation and recommended they talk to Peg at L Street.
  • We met up with another friend (Terry) who was wearing sneakers that were in rough shape.  We found a nice pair of sneakers that fit him and new socks.  On the way out of town, we saw him standing on the corner outside Dunkin Donuts.  A lot of our friends go right to DD and get something to eat after we give them our packet.

Sunday’s gospel about Jesus healing the blind man got me to thinking how we can be blind in recognizing the less fortunate in life.  “Jesus, help us to see as you do”.

“If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts”.  Psalm 95:8
