“I can only imagine, when all I will do is forever, forever worship You, I can only imagine” Lyrics from song “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me

March 21, 2026

Today, we had the privilege of serving 33 people.

  • We ran into our regular friends at our usual spot.  The word has spread about where we are showing up which means we need to change up our meeting spots.  With such large groups of friends, we can’t get to talk one on one with them.  Blankets, sweatpants, hooded sweatshirts, socks, snacks, along with our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card were in demand.
  • When asking each one of our friends if they needed any clothes, I was struck by the response of our friend (Pedro) who replied, “I don’t need any clothes; I still have the nice winter coat you gave me last week”.  This response took us by surprise because some of our friends ask for two of everything we give them.
  • When we pulled up to our usual meeting spot, we noticed our friend (Shane) was sleeping on the ground in a parking lot.  When we first saw him, our thoughts were, “is he alive”?  He heard us pull up and jumped up and kept saying, “thank God for you guys”.  We had a large tent for him and (Kathy) as well as a couple of sleeping bags.  He was so excited about this.  He said, “it will be nice to have a new home base”.  Our friend’s value system is at times so puzzling.
  • We ran into a new friend (Jose) who was under a bridge carrying a golf club.  I asked if he needed some help and held up our packet.  He replied, “Oh yes”!  I kidded with him, “I know you are not looking for a golf ball”.  He laughed and said to us “God bless you” and we said “no…God bless you”.
  • We ran into our friend (Bosch) who was in treatment for 28 days.  He was commenting about how much weight he put on and he looked good.  Seeing him back on the street, like a lot of friends who get physically well after hospital stays or treatment, think they are “good to go” not realizing they need to treat spiritual and emotional issues along with the physical, and being back on the street corner won’t address these vital problems.  It’s so sad – each Saturday you will see, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, the deterioration of them, physically and mentally.  More cuts, more bruises, more broken bones.

“Answer me quickly, Lord; my spirit fails.  Do not hide your face from me, or I will be like those who go down to the pit” Psalm 143:7a
