“How I wish, how I wish you were here, we’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year” lyrics from song, “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd

Today, we had the privilege of serving 36 people.
- This morning started out on a sad note when we learned our friend (Al) died in his sleep. He had asked us for a pair of sweat pants that I put in a bag with his name on it and was going to give to him this morning. (Al) was quite the character. Always generous to his friends, he would pass on something given to him if there wasn’t anything left for someone else. He had been wearing a white fedora the past couple of months. The hat fit his character. Unfortunately, he had many medical issues and if you had the time he could describe in depth each one. It’s sad with all the medical issues our friends have; they never properly address them. We are going to miss seeing that white fedora standing on the corner. RIP our friend.
- We ran into two new friends (Louie) and (Ronny). (Louie) was riding a bike juggling all his belongings in multiple supermarket bags. I asked him if he needed help. He looked puzzled until I held up our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card to which he replied, “Oh yes!” We were able to fix him up with socks, underwear, sweatshirt and a coat. With all the additional stuff, we gave him a large trash bag to put everything in.
- Our other new friend (Ronny) was in a driveway between two buildings with a queen size mattress laying on the ground with all his belongings scattered around. We fixed him up with socks, underwear, hooded sweatshirt, blanket and our packet. He seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with everything we gave him, saying “God bless you” to which we replied, “no...God bless you”.
- We ran into our friend (Suzie) in her wheelchair on a side street. She was very happy to see us. We had not seen her since the winter after they had removed both her feet because of frost bite. She looked a lot better than the previous times we saw her. She was very glad to see us, we fixed her up with underwear, tee shirts, long sleeve shirts, hooded sweatshirt. I offered her some leggings but hesitated until her friend (Sharon) reminded me she still has legs (my bad!). “Open my eyes to your heart Lord.”
We have changed our location for Donations for OSM from Holy Cross Retreat House to My Brother’s Keeper. We currently have a box in the main stairway on the 1st floor of MBK.
God Bless,
