Today we had the privilege of serving 46 people between Wednesday 9/16 and today.

• This morning started off very busy then settled down as we moved around.  We met new friends and old friends we have not seen for a while.  We ran into (Kathryn) an old friend who was with a new friend (Pat).  (Kathryn) kept saying, “I’m so glad I finally ran into you guys; I haven’t seen you in a while”.  We fixed them up with sweatpants, hoodies, socks, underwear, tee shirts, snacks, Gatorade.  (Kathryn) kept looking at us in disbelief because she only had the clothes on her back.  I looked down at her sneakers that were worn out and asked if she needed another pair and she replied, “Oh yes”!  We found a pair that fit her and she kept saying, “thank you”.  We finished our visit with handing her our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.

• We ran into our friend (Lee) who was just released from the hospital and looked pretty good.  She proceeded to list all her physical ailments which I gave up trying to convince her that these health issues are directly related to her lifestyle, I tell her I still Love Her.

• The bright spot of the morning was while we were giving out clothes and snacks to a few of our regular friends, a gentleman walked by wearing overalls and looked over at us suspiciously.  I asked him if he needed some help and he walked over to us.  I asked what his name was and he replied, “they call me (Tex)”.  His southern accent matched his name.  We asked him what he needed and like a lot of our new friends they only ask for a couple of things like socks and underwear.  So, we asked what else do you need and we fixed him up with a bunch of other stuff and he kept repeating “God bless you guys”.  He started to walk away when I said “Hey where are you going?  You are missing the most important part – our packet with the $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card”.  His eyes lit up and replied, “Thank you God” and started to walk away again and then he turned around and said, “I know God is not done with me yet because there is no dot behind my name”.  He turned and started to walk away again and then turned and said, “Would you have a pair of men’s sneakers”?  I said, “what size”? He replied, “9-½”.  I replied, “I do”.  He got all choked up and said, “God bless you guys”. “The seed that falls into the broken ground bears much fruit” (Henri Nouwen per John’s Gospel).
