“Afraid of my own shadow, in the face of grace, heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face” lyrics from song, “Tightrope” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

August 15, 2026

Today we had the privilege of serving 35 people.

  • Today was a good day – all things considered.  We had to keep moving to avoid larger crowds, but were able to chat with the smaller groups of friends we ran into.  We met up with friends (Amy/Jay).  Jay was carrying a laundry bag on his back with all their possessions in it.  We fixed them up with some clothes, socks, underwear, hoodie, long sleeve shirts, snacks.  We also gave them a backpack, along with our packet of $10 bill/$10 Dunkin Donuts card/prayer card.  Kathy was talking with (Amy) and grabbed her hand and hugged her.  (Amy) commented to her “A cold hand but a warm heart” and we both thought what a great statement.
  • We ran into our friend (Jose) who had his sneakers stolen last week.  We gave him a new pair, and he was very happy for them.  We also ran into (Moe, Marie and Jenna).  (Jenna) was talking nonstop about all the hardships she had encountered in the past week.  The longer our friends are out there the more their mental, health along with their physical health, declines.  I remember Jim would say most of our friends just want someone to listen to them.  (Marie) on the other hand was more interested in getting some clothes that would fit her.  The last time we saw her she had a lot of open sores on her arms and legs but today a lot of them had healed up.
  • We met a new friend (Bobby) who was near our friend (Ray).  We pulled up to (Ray) who was wedged inside a small doorway with his shopping cart in front of him acting as a shield from the outside world.  We are still amazed how (Ray) survives without proper medical treatment (he refuses it).  He had a white rag as a make-shift bandage tied around his shin covering another cut that was bleeding.  Every time we ask him what he needs he replies “A million dollars would be nice”.  (Bobby) was working on his bike when we pulled up.  We asked if he could use some help and offered our packet.  He looked surprised and asked what church we were affiliated with.  We told him the history of the ministry, and he told us he has an 8-year old daughter that he has not seen since she was a baby.  We fixed him up with snacks, socks, underwear, tee shirts and he kept thanking us.  As we were speaking to (Bobby) an old friend (Danielle) ran up to us out of breath.  She was at another location that we had to bypass.  She kept saying “I am so glad I found you guys”.  We gave her snacks, socks, underwear, leggings and she was very happy.  She said, “God bless you”.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”. 1Corinthians 10:13.
